  • Canal Clean Sweep April 26'

    Dates: April 17-19, 2026 (Earth Day Weekend)

    Description:
    Celebrate Earth Day by joining thousands of volunteers to clean up trails, greenways, and parks across New York's historic 524-mile Erie Canal system and 400-mile Canalway Trail. This is the 21st anniversary of this beloved event!

    In 2025, over 3,000 volunteers participated at 180+ cleanup sites, removing tens of thousands of pounds of trash!

  • I Love My Park Day May 26'

    Date: Saturday, May 2, 2026 (First Saturday in May)
    Event Type: Statewide park cleanup and improvement day

    Description:
    New York's largest single-day volunteer event! Join thousands of volunteers from across the state to celebrate and enhance state parks, historic sites, and public lands. This is the 15th annual event.

    Activities:

    Beach and shoreline cleanups

    Trail restoration and maintenance

    Tree and flower planting (hundreds of trees planted annually!)

    Garden creation and maintenance (1,000+ gardens updated yearly)

    Invasive species removal

    Wildlife habitat restoration

    Painting and facility improvements

    Site beautification projects

    Trash collection (hundreds of bags filled each year)

    Impact:
    In 2025, over 4,000 volunteers participated at 145 events across New York State!

  • Riverkeeper Sweep May 26'

    Event Type: Hudson River watershed cleanup

    Description:
    The premier day of service for the Hudson River! Join thousands of volunteers at 80+ cleanup sites from New York Harbor to the Adirondacks for the annual Riverkeeper Sweep. This beloved event brings together river lovers of all ages to protect our watershed.

    Native species planting

    Shoreline restoration

    Creek and tributary cleanups

    Invasive species removal

    Educational outreach

    Impact:
    Since 2012, volunteers have removed tons of debris from the Hudson River watershed. The majority of trash found is plastic, which doesn't biodegrade.

    Description:
    Honor and care for New York's wild places! This statewide event focuses on conservation of over 6.5 million acres of Forest Preserve lands in the Adirondack and Catskill Parks. Help protect these treasured outdoor spaces after a busy summer season.

    Trail maintenance and cleanup

    Campground cleanup after summer season

    Campsite inspections

    Invasive species removal

    Native plant restoration

    Trail bridge building

    Drainage maintenance

    First held in 2024, this event continues to grow with dozens of volunteer sites across both parks.

    Description:
    Show your appreciation for wildlife and wildlife conservation! Participate in habitat improvement projects, educational workshops, and nature walks celebrating New York's diverse wildlife. This event launched in 2024 and continues the Love Our New York Lands series into fall.
